On Purpose International, Inc. (OPI) originated in Boston, MA in 2018. OPI worked with local community residents to organize neighborhood cleanups, beautification efforts, annual black history month events, Easter egg hunts, block party, Christmas caroling, historically black tennis court restoration efforts, women’s inspirational tea gatherings, Christmas holiday donation drive, and much more.
Haiti
On Purpose International, Inc. (OPI) started working with a local orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 2018 by teaching English to orphans from ages 5 to 17 twice a week on Zoom. The students were eager to learn and began to absorb the English language very quickly. The OPI team partnered with local eye doctors to give the children their first eye exams. The team also collected eyeglasses and books with anticipation of sending them to Haiti to the children at the orphanage. Unfortunately, COVID-19 struck and gang violence began to erupt in the streets of the local Haitian communities, so the project was put on pause. OPI plans to restart the project in Haiti once again when the conditions are safe.
South Africa
In October of 2024, On Purpose International, Inc. (OPI) partnered with Haven Place Doulas (HPD) and collected baby diapers, baby wipes, baby soap and lotion, socks for babies and mothers, breast pads, sanitary napkins, adult diapers, suitcases, etc. to pack, transport, and distribute in South Africa (SA). Together, OPI and HPD traveled abroad to Johannesburg, South Africa and disseminated mini pregnancy bags to underprivileged families in the community and surrounding areas. Fourteen suitcases were brought in total to South Africa enabling us to make and giveaway 296 pregnancy bags. This concerted effort was birthed out of a commitment to help address the immediate needs of disadvantaged, prenatal and postpartum families in SA. While on the journey, OPI and HPD met a local owner of an orphanage who needed support for her orphans. Toys were bought to help alleviate the stress and bring joy to the children. OPI is committed to return to SA annually to continue collecting and distributing the necessary resources for hurting families in Johannesburg and beyond. We will support the initial communities that we started in by expanding our capacity and reach. The need is great, but we hope our contributions will help families get access to the proper resources they need to thrive.
